Bringing technology into this mix could risk the personal nature of the bar experience, endangering customer relationships. New technology in the bar might also intimidate employees, who could feel that “big brother” is watching and evaluating every move. Including the bartenders in the process seems critical for success of any tap technology. Peterson adds, “You have to make the staff a part of the process. Ask, how can we work together to make this an opportunity? You need to empower and engage people to solve the problem rather than wag a finger.”
