DT Research Unveils Handheld POS Devices

DT Research Inc. announces the availability of the WebDT 400 series — a new line of handheld POS devices designed for quick customer service applications, such as mobile order-taking, ticket scanning, payment processing, as well as inventory management.

The WebDT 400 series of devices offers the ultimate usability in a handheld POS solution with a 4.3-inch display. These are the first handheld devices to include a fully-integrated MSR, RFID and/or barcode scanner. The WebDT 400 devices can help companies do more with less by improving customer service with fewer employees and reduce costs by streamlining business processes.

The WebDT Point-of-Service handhelds can be designated for specific applications and business processes. This directly translates into greater ease-of-use and businesses are not forced to purchase unnecessary features. The WebDT 400 devices have a unique, rugged design, with an IP65 rating for liquid and dust resistance — ideal for use in commercial, outdoor/field, warehousing, healthcare, and hospitality environments. The devices' fully-integrated magnetic stripe reader (MSR), RFID and barcode scanner dramatically enhance ease-of-use and reliability.

The WebDT 400 series offers the only handheld POS devices that include built-in remote management software. The WebDT Device Manager simplifies the management of multiple devices, especially useful for large deployments, such as in retail, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment.

Models
Customers can choose from two models of the WebDT Point-of-Service Handheld:

  • WebDT 430: The WebDT 430 features a 4.3-inch LCD touch screen with an outdoor-viewable display and a virtual keyboard — the largest screen size of any handheld device on the market. The large high-resolution screen significantly improves touch accuracy and usability in any environment.
  • WebDT 435: The WebDT 435 features a 3.5-inch, high-resolution, outdoor-viewable LCD touch display with a physical numeric keypad.

Both models feature hot-swappable batteries that support up to eight hours of use. Other features include programmable buttons, wireless networking and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as vibrating alert capability for paging and communication.

Applications by industry

  • Hotels & casinos: The WebDT 400 series allows hotels and casinos to register guests from anywhere on the property — reducing wait time for customers. In addition, service staff can quickly process drink and food orders — whether on the casino floor or poolside.
  • Restaurants & quick-service: Restaurants and fast-food chains can offer faster service through table-side or curb-side order taking using the WebDT Point-of-Service Handheld. This provides reduced wait-time for customers by having orders transmitted directly from the table to the kitchen. Using the integrated MSR, restaurants can also easily process table-side or curb-side payments. Kitchen-to-floor communication is enhanced using the vibrating alert function, which signals staff when an order is ready.
