Despite the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, POS-related news in July pushed forward. The next phases of implementation from both the lodging and food service sectors were in line with consumers’ needs for more flexibility and mobility. Pay-at-the-table mobile solutions were a top restaurant hit. Rollouts and advancements from providers were skewed toward joint efforts—partnerships in innovation and security are increasingly viewed as value-added solutions. Marriott Hotels UK Launches POS Spa Booking Solution
Marriott Hotels in the UK added Concept Spa and Leisure to its newly launched website. The solution, from Concept Software Systems, is a fully integrated POS system that will facilitate the delivery of enhanced service and convenience to Marriott’s spa clientele at properties throughout the United Kingdom.
 
Starbucks Recent Earnings Jump Partly Due to Digital Initiatives
Starbucks Corp. reported a sharp jump in quarterly sales and profit, driven, in part, to digital initiatives, according to The Wall Street Journal. In the U.S., digital initiatives are helping attract new customers—the number of active users in the company’s loyalty program grew 28 percent from a year ago to 10.4 million, and 20 percent of U.S. transactions are now made using mobile devices, up from 9 percent two years ago, the Journal reported.
