RTN Corner: Workgroups Deliver Best Practices Around Top Challenges

The Restaurant Technology Network’s workgroups are where members truly “join, share, and thrive.”

Open to all registered members, workgroups allow technology companies and restaurant operators to collaborate on the most urgent challenges, creating best practices and publishing industry-leading standards. Workgroup chairs also have the opportunity to present the standards and best practices findings live on stage at MURTEC, MURTEC Executive Summit, and Restaurant Next events.

Below, we share a brief overview of current work group opportunities. Nonmembers can test drive a workshop by signing up here

Open API: Transactional Data Standard

Restaurant transactional data, whether financial, marketing, or operational, makes up the basis for a modern, data-driven company, but many restaurants do not have access or simply cannot ingest this data to make meaningful decisions. This workgroup will create processes and technical requirements to simplify transactional categories, to help restaurants aggregate, analyze, and act on valuable data in real time.

Open API: Customer Record Data Standard

Restaurants are dealing with fragmented, non-uniform customer profiles, along with disparate systems that create even more complexity when trying to manage this data. Owning the customer is table stakes for cultivating loyal fans, understanding customer behavior and sparking repeat business for restaurants, and it's becoming increasingly important, given the threat of third-party delivery customer migration. In addition, maintaining integrity when collecting and handling customer data is a growing concern. This workgroup will standardize the structure and communication of customer profiles, enabling restaurants to create a competitive advantage with the customer data they own.

Rest-ISAC Group

The Restaurant Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Rest-ISAC), is a restaurant-only-driven specialty group, acting as the focal point for cyber threat prevention, protection, response and recovery for restaurants. The mission of the REST-ISAC is to improve the overall cybersecurity posture of all restaurants. Collaboration and information sharing among members and partners is the key to the group’s success.

POS Implementation Security Best Practices

Point of Sale (POS) systems are a part of every concept and size of restaurant, but they are implemented and deployed in ways that lead to a lack of uniformity in security capabilities.  This fragmentation leads to increased risks to individual stores as well as large brands.  This group will develop industry standard security requirements and implementation best practices to address these issues and ultimately increase the security maturity of the POS.
