Starwood Debuts Proprietary 3-D Online Planning Program

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Los Cabos have introduced a new online program designed to put complete event customization online. By using a state-of-the-art 3-D interface users of The Virtual Planner can events without ever having to leave their computer.

The Virtual Planner is available exclusively at Starwood's two luxury resorts in Baja California, the Westin Los Cabos and the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Los Cabos. It is expected to roll out to Starwood properties throughout Mexico by mid-2008 and to Starwood properties in the United States by the end of the 2008.

The program offers views of all function space with 3D model fly-throughs and details about space dimensions and capacities. It also allows a planner to view a number of photos of real-life examples of how the space can be used effectively.

Planners can also add and view details such as linen color and placement of tables, chairs, stage, screens, dance floor, entertainment, etc. All elements can be changed with a click of the mouse. To view their work, planners can click on "View in 3D" and see a virtual 3D representation of their proposed event. They can walk around the space within the 3D interface to experience the set-up as a guest would.

When happy with a proposed set up, planners can download menus and make food and beverage requests ranging from half-hour coffee breaks to full dinners. They can also make special requests for security staff, audio visual equipment, simultaneous translations, entertainment and more.

When complete, planners submit their creations online, which sends an RFP to the resort's meeting and event staff, who will respond within 24 hours with a price quote. For more information, check out the Virtual Planner online at www.westin.com/virtual or www.sheraton.com/virtual.
