QR Code’s Latest Use:  Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines

As restaurant dining is going contactless, Coca-Cola says it will rollout a contactless way to operate its Freestyle Coca-Cola soda dispensers in the coming months.

Fans can have their customized diet coke and a touchless experience.  The beverage giant will deploy a QR-code based solution that leverages the customer’s smartphone and does not require downloading an app; however, there is an app.

To operate, consumers hold their smartphone’s camera up to the display, which will auto-scan a QR code and connects to the cloud to bring the Coca-Cola Freestyle user interface to their phone, reports Yahoo Finance. Customers can then select from the full menu of brands and flavors, and the machine will subsequently pour their drink.

Coca-Cola Freestyle is a touch screen soda fountain introduced by The Coca-Cola Company in 2009. The machine features 100+ different Coca-Cola drink products, as well as custom flavors. The machine allows users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products, which are then individually dispensed.
