Starbucks Brews Two Piping-Hot iPhone Apps & Announces Plans for Mobile Payment Testing

Starbucks is launching two new mobile applications designed for iPhoe and iPod touch users: the myStarbucks App and the Starbucks Card Mobile App.

The myStarbucks App is the first official Starbucks Apps for iPhone and iPod touch customers on-the-go. The myStarbucks App (noted by the iconic Starbucks logo) will allow users to build and share their favorite beverages, find store locations anywhere in the world, look up detailed nutritional information for Starbucks food and beverage items, build and store favorite Starbucks espresso drinks, and learn more about Starbucks' rich selection of whole bean coffees. Key functions
Save your Starbucks favorites: The myStarbucks tab allows customers to easily find and store their favorite stores, espresso beverages, Starbucks whole bean coffees, and food items for quick reference or to share with friends and family.

Your Starbucks stores: Under the Stores tab, guests can search for the closest Starbucks store in both map and list view. Guests can also type in a postal code, city, or address and get a list of stores in the area. 

The myStarbucks App also offers the unique ability to filter stores and conduct location searches based on a store's amenities, including store hours and whether they have a drive-thru, oven-warmed food, or wireless internet access.

After selecting a store, guests can easily add it to their MyFavorites tab or tap a button to invite a friend to meet them via SMS texting or email. Links to a store's phone number also allow customers to call the store or get directions to the location with a tap of the finger.

Your favorite whole bean coffee: Under the Coffee tab, customers can get detailed information about Starbucks core, seasonal, and traditional coffees, including where the coffee was grown and when it is available in our stores.

The Coffee tab also features a Coffee Finder that allows customers to select flavor descriptions that appeal to them. The Finder then chooses a coffee that best fits the guest's selected taste profile.

Your drink builder: With the one-of-a-kind Drink Builder, custoemrs can create and save customized espresso beverages, send favorites to friends and family members, and get nutritional information. Customers can even see what requesting nonfat milk or holding the whip does to the calorie count.

Your Starbucks Food information: The myStarbucks App makes finding information about favorite Starbucks food items even easier. Under the Food tab, customers can see photos, get detailed descriptions and retrieve ingredient and nutritional information, including calories, fat, sodium content, and cholesterol.

Starbucks Card information at your fingertips
In addition to the myStarbucks app, Starbucks is also launching a new Starbucks Card Mobile App on the App Store is a breakthrough for Starbucks Card customers. Customers can download the Starbucks Card Mobile App to view their Starbucks Card balance, and reload their cards directly from their iPhone iPod touch with a major credit card. This rich Card experience is complemented by the ability to manage guests' Card accounts and register Starbucks Cards to enjoy balance protection and Starbucks Card Rewards in select markets. Plus, as part of the Starbucks Card Mobile App, Starbucks is testing a groundbreaking mobile payment component that will allow customers in 16 stores in Seattle and Northern California to pay using their iPhone or iPod touch mobile device. 

  • Check your Starbucks Card balance: The Card balance is prominently displayed on the home page of the Starbucks Card Mobile App. Customers with more than one card loaded on Starbucks Card Mobile can access all balances from the home screen with the touch of a button.
  • Reload at the Touch of a Button: Customers can reload their Starbucks Card Mobile accounts with any major credit card from their iPhone or iPod touch. 

Mobile payment trial 
In select stores in two markets (8 stores in Seattle, WA, and 8 in Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and San Jose, CA), Starbucks is testing a mobile payment feature whereby users can pay for their Starbucks purchases with their iPhone or iPod touch. The device will display a barcode that can be used just like a Starbucks Card to make a purchase. Customers who register their Starbucks Cards online or on their mobile device and pay using their iPhone or iPod touch in these select stores will also enjoy the same Starbucks Card Rewards benefits as customers who pay using a traditional registered Starbucks Cards.

Benefits include:

  • Free syrup and milk options
  • Brewed coffee refills (iced or hot) at no extra charge on the same visit
  • A complimentary Tall beverage of choice with a whole bean purchase
  • Two consecutive hours of free AT&T Wi-Fi per day in our stores
