Sheraton Imperial Doubles Network Traffic with Upgraded Wi-Fi

6/11/2015
Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center, in Durham, N.C. near Research Triangle Park, deployed substantial upgrades to its wireless network, including faster and more reliable Internet capabilities across multiple devices.

With more than 34,000 square feet of meeting space, the Sheraton Imperial says it caters to travelers who often carry multiple Internet-enabled devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets. By upgrading its Wi-Fi infrastructure, the hotel fulfilled the increasing demand for improved Internet as part of the modern hotel guest experience. Since deploying the new network, the number of connected devices and the amount of traffic on the network has doubled.

“When travelers used to arrive with just a laptop, wireless access points in our hallways were able to cover up to 10 rooms,” said Mike Martino, general manager of the Sheraton Imperial. “Today, with guests bringing two to four devices or more, we needed to modernize our system to cater to the growing demand for faster, more reliable Internet connectivity.”

Clearview Networks, which specializes in offering network solutions for the hospitality industry, worked with Sheraton Imperial to deploy over 115 Cisco Aironet 700W Series Access Points. Clearview maintains these dual-radio, 802.11n-based access points can be mounted on the wall over existing data outlets. Touted to be ideal for hospitality businesses that are looking to enhance the guest experience with Wi-Fi, the Cisco Aironet 700W Series can handle complex wireless access demands by many guests and across multiple devices, and provide cost-savings through seamless integration with existing networks.

Because the new access points are now located in guest rooms, guests will have the ability to connect multiple devices at a significantly high signal strength, while keeping the signal-to-noise ratio low, according to Clearview.
