Robot Serves Up Drinks in Posh Montreal Eatery

Patrons visiting Le XVI XVI (Le 1616), a fine dining restaurant that opens its doors in Montreal later this month, will not only be dazzled by the bartender’s mixology skills but its sense of wit. And it’s a robot.

The robotic bartender, named R1-B1, serves drinks at the restaurant’s first-floor lounge. The French-speaking robot interacts with clients: it not only understands drink orders but also has a sense of humor, reported the Cochrane Times Post (Montreal.) 

On the restaurant’s website under team, R1-D1 is described as “a star actor” and “surprises, intrigues and amuses his public with humor.”

To create the cocktail menu, owners relied on local human talent. The restaurant tapped award-winning mixologist Alexis Taoufiq from Montreal’s speakeasy The 4th Wall to create the cocktail menu.
