NJ Restaurant Neutralizes Threat of High Service & Maintenance Costs Following POS Upgrade

Situated in the Robert Treat Hotel, in the heart of Newark, New Jersey's Arts District, the owners of Maize Restaurant were in need of a complete point of sale system that would neutralize the high service and maintenance costs associated with their previous POS.

Maize Restaurant is located in the heart of Newark, New Jersey's Performing Arts District, an area that has become a tri-state destination drawing in top notch symphonies and theater performances to its arts venues, as well as sports fans and concert goers to the newly built Prudential "Rock" arena. Situated on the ground floor of the Robert Treat Hotel, Maize Restaurant offers its guests the choice of a lounge, bar or dining room experience and serves a wide variety of customers that include hotel guests, local business workers and Art District visitors.

The present owners of Maize Restaurant purchased the restaurant with a point of sale system (POS), but found that system to be problematic and that the cost for service and upkeep was too costly for the operating budget. That's when the owners decided to look for a high-quality, cost-effective alternative. They decided on the KenntekPOS point of sale system.

Terminal upgrade
The New Jersey-based KenntekPOS, replaced the restaurant's existing four terminal point of sale system with four KenntekPOS terminals. Each terminal consists of a Touch Dynamic Breeze Touch Screen, a Dell Small Footprint Computer, and a Star Micronics TSP650 Thermal Receipt Printer. Two of the four terminals are located behind the bar area, while the remaining two terminals service the dining area.

In addition to installing the four terminals, two Star Micronics SP700 Impact Printers have also been added to the restaurant's kitchen. An additional interface designed by KenntekPOS between the Robert Treat Hotel and Maize Restaurant was implemented to manage room accounts and room service charges to the hotel.

As a result of the new POS installation, system maintenance has improved due to the fact that there are fewer service calls. The point of sale system is functioning without problems and according to the restaurant's specific needs. In addition to this, the very high service and maintenance cost that were associated with the previous POS have been eliminated and replaced with a more reasonable maintenance cost (when needed). Maize owners pay the service fee when there is a problem which has not occurred since they installed the system several months ago.
