Hotel Tech Strikes Fear in Some Hotel Employees

As hotels increasingly implement technologies such as mobile/kiosk check-in, room service robots, and in-room voice technology which serve as virtual concierges, hotel employees are worried they will soon be replaced, states a recent AP article by Philip Marcelo. More than a week ago, 8,000 hotel staff – from Boston to Honolulu – walked off the job at Marriott Hotels due in large part to concerns over the hotel chain's implementation of technology. In part, hotel employees are requesting that Marriott agree to 180 days notice before any new technology is rolled out.
