Hotel Hit by Data Breach
Prince Hotels & Resorts in Japan has disclosed that it has suffered a data breach through its third-party reservation system.
Prince Hotels & Resorts reservations system in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean were impacted by unauthorized access and possible acquisition of personal information through Fastbooking, its reservation system for international guests.
According to a Prince Hotels’ statement, the first incident was from May 2017-June 2018 and involved 39 hotels and 58,003 customers' reservation information and contact details.
The second incident, involving 43 hotels, had an unknown start date and continued through August 2017. This breach included more than 66.690 customers' names and credit card information.
“We are working diligently to address this issue and our priority will continue to be doing what is right for our guests. We are committed to sharing additional information on this ongoing investigation with our guests as we learn more,” said Prince Hotels in a statement.
SC Magazine reported that hackers exploited a web app vulnerability on a FastBooking server to install malware and pilfer the data.
