With the National Retail Federation’s BIG Show taking place in the middle of January, the start of 2013 was even more packed with headlines heralding the latest in POS. This month, payment security, new mobile offerings and improvements in cloud-based systems were driving the point of service environment.

Juice Bar and Cafe Biz Collaborates With Turnkey POS System
Performance Food Centers (PFC) has teamed with MICROS Systems, Inc. as its preferred technology vendor. MICROS has been appointed PFC’s exclusive technology partner for its 1,300+ juice bar and cafÉ clients. MICROS will offer its MICROS e7 Series Point-of-Sale (POS) system, which provides PFC clients a turnkey solution, including a reliable all-in-one point-of-sale system, optional above-store reporting via the mymicros.net business intelligence and reporting platform, and easy installation, training, and support from MICROS’s distribution and service network.

Epson Announces OmniLink Printers with BI
Epson America, Inc. introduced its OmniLink smart solutions at the recent NRF (National Retail Federation) 102nd Annual Convention & EXPO. OmniLink is a new family of intelligent products that combines industry-leading POS printers with built-in intelligence to deliver flexible, mobile web-based printing, cloud-based services, peripheral connectivity and PC computing power—all in one small footprint. Epson’s OmniLink family represents a new class of intelligent solutions that allows retailers to take advantage of new POS applications and configuration flexibility without sacrificing their existing technology investment.

VeriFone Systems, Inc. has revealed how its comprehensive suite of payments solutions is helping leading retailers interact with, impact and impress their customers. NCR Corporation and PayPal, Inc., an eBay company, have announced an agreement to integrate NCR’s innovative mobile solutions for hospitality and retail with PayPal’s leading digital payment technology. The combination provides restaurants and retailers an easy, powerful way to offer consumers a rich mobile and digital payment experience when buying the goods and services they want.

Restaurant Uses Technology to Make Every Aspect of Dining Experience Interactive
OSHI Asian Restaurant in Cyprus opened with an interactive system developed in-house by Kodisoft company, Interactive Restaurant Technology (IRT). From the moment a visitor enters they will see IRT components in action – such as interactive terminals that allow customers to see current menu, table availability, and to preview dishes. Each of 80 seats gives a customer fully interactive control of his dining experience through gesture recognition on a 55-inch LED screen. Guests can easily explore the menu, which includes image previews, descriptions and nutritional information for each item.

Jamba Juice Joins Other Restaurants Accepting Isis Mobile Wallet
In addition to many retail establishments, Jamba Juice is among the first national merchants to join with Isis in advancing mobile commerce. Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, has announced the first of its local merchant partners across Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City, Utah. Isis’ national and local merchant partners join a long list of major merchants who already accept contactless payments. These merchants, including coffee shops and restaurants, are already equipped with the payment terminals that are compatible with Isis. At launch, hundreds of merchant locations in both Austin and Salt Lake City will accept contactless payments, ensuring that consumers can use the Isis Mobile Wallet at the merchant locations they shop at every day.
