HTNG's Hotel Systems Dashboard Workgroup Releases Best Practices Document

HTNG's Hotel Systems Dashboard Workgroup has published a document defining requirements for a comprehensive dashboard system.

The requirements document includes information relating to business impact (both guests and associates), system outages and trending information relating to business impact (both guests and associates), system outages and trending information that could be used for forecasting.

The group was created to help hoteliers who do not have a cohesive, coherent and comprehensive view of technology systems within a hotel. While individual hotel systems have basic monitoring systems in place, they are highly technical and require significant expertise to interpret. Further, they do not provide enough detailed forecasting information, which may cause hotels to delay necessary upgrades for broken or insufficient system resources. A lack of planning and upgrading (utilizing trend analysis) decreases guest satisfaction and may delay rectification of the problem.

Since the type of information presented in a hotel systems dashboard may differ depending on the targeted audience, the workgroup effort was directed toward three audiences:

  • Property management (e.g. General Manager)
  • Property technical support (on property or third party)
  • Management or property ownership group

The initial workgroup effort was directed toward the property network (and not other hotel systems or business applications), however, the lessons learned from this work could be applied to other critical hotel systems.

The Hotel Systems Dashboard Workgroup was led by Co-chairs Graeme Powell of Veridicum and Richard Wagner of Marriott International.
