Google Maps' Match Feature Helps Diners ID New Favorite Restaurants
The latest version of the Google Maps for IOS includes a Match feature that predicts how likely the user will like a restaurant.
To use, a user taps on a food or drink spot in the Google Maps app to see how likely s/he will enjoy it based on their unique experiences.
This feature, which was previewed at the Google Developer Conference, was launched on Android last month.
Another new feature includes the Explore tab. Users can now see how many restaurants she/he has visited.
More than Directions
The new features move Google Maps beyond just giving directions.
These new user experience are all about personalization with the help of AI, Tech Crunch reported.
Google Maps presents the user with a personalized score or match that tells the user how closely a restaurant matches the user's own preferences.
Google Maps learns about those preferences based on how the user has rated this and other places; Google does not try to base these scores on how other like the user have rated a place, reported Tech Crunch.
