Beyond the Hype: The Real Impact of Robots in Hotels and Restaurants
As the hospitality industry faces ongoing labor challenges, robots are emerging as a viable solution for hotels and restaurants, yet the acceptance of this technology remains a topic of debate. While some hoteliers see robots as essential tools for automating repetitive tasks and enhancing operational efficiency, others are concerned about the potential impact on job availability and guest experience. In a discussion with Elad Inbar, Founder and CEO of RobotLAB, we explore these concerns, the technological advancements driving robotics, and the unique ways robots are being tailored to the needs of the hospitality sector. Here’s a glimpse into that conversation, where Inbar sheds light on why robotics are gaining momentum now and how they’re transforming business models in hotels and restaurants.
Why has it taken so long for robots to be adopted into the hotel and restaurant industries?
It didn’t take long at all! While robots have been depicted in movies for many years, the current capabilities of cleaning, delivery and cooking robots were not feasible even 3-4 years ago. Recent advancements in sensor and battery technology, along with AI, have finally closed the gaps needed to make robots truly useful and cost-effective. Restaurants led the way due to COVID-19, which increased demand for automated food delivery and resulted in widespread adoption of delivery robots. This trend was soon followed by hotels integrating cleaning robots to maintain their facilities despite staffing challenges. The hospitality industry, compared to other industries, was quick to adopt robots due to labor shortages and the constant demand for facility maintenance and guest services.
