Servi line of food service robots are made with Makroblend UT PC/PET blend from Covestro.

Covestro, a polymer supplier, announced its collaboration with Bear Robotics, makers of the Servi line of hospitality robots. When designing Servi, Bear Robotics required a material that was aesthetically appealing, dimensionally stable, and resistant to both impacts and chemicals. After extensive testing they found that Makroblend UltraTough's PC/PET combination fit the bill.

Robots on the Rise

Robots are on the rise, especially for delivery at college campuses.  Starship, which started delivering food to Purdue students back in 2019, now has 1000+ robots in its fleet worldwide. Recently, Kiwibot and Sodexo teamed up on robotic food delivery at select universities. Grubhub is deploying Yandex Self-Driving Group's robot delivery technology at the University of Arizona and at  the Ohio State University.

Bear Robotics' Servi is arriving in the market as restaurant owners face labor shortages and worker happiness is at a premium. A recent article detailed how a Denny's is using the in-house robots. Designed as a complement to the modern kitchen and its waitstaff, Servi and Servi  Mini reduce stress for restaurant workers by delivering food and drinks out from kitchen to table, then bussing back dirty dishes, allowing servers to focus more deeply on customer experience and satisfaction while improving overall efficiency.

As a fully self-driving robot, Servi is filled with an array of cameras, sensors, processors, along with an advanced LiDar system that lets it not only get to the correct destination, but navigate around patrons and other unpredictable front- and back-of-house situations.
