The Sands Expo Center Installs Consistent WiFi Across 2.2 Million Square Feet

8/30/2013
The Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada recently installed Channel Blanket architecture from Extricom Ltd., the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) solution provider that delivers seamless mobility. Recognized for their award winning enterprise Wi-Fi solutions for large public venues (LPVs), Extricom successfully delivered seamless WLAN to The Sands 2.2 million square feet of flexible exhibition and meeting space, one of the world's largest and most prestigious convention centers.

When it came time to evaluate the convention center's wireless network, The Sands' IT team knew one thing for sure - downtime was not an option for the main exhibition floor, adjacent meeting rooms and common areas shared by the Palazzo and Venetian hotels.

The Sands management needed Wi-Fi that could be counted on 24/7. Since installing Extricom's wireless LAN in-house there have not been any issues with connectivity.

Extricom's US partner, SignalShare, a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions for the sports and entertainment industries, was responsible for The Sands' network installation and deployment. SignalShare set up a complementary, hybrid network alongside The Sands' existing WLAN. With Extricom's patented Channel Blanket™ technology to support the current infrastructure, The Sands show floor and adjacent spaces were sufficiently covered with uninterrupted, high-quality Internet connectivity.

Uniquely suited for large indoor venues, Extricom's Channel Blanket™ architecture allows single channels to blanket entire sections of the show floor, eliminating the need for difficult, virtually impossible to deploy, microcell system designs. Now, The Sands could provide their oftentimes, 100,000 clients with Wi-Fi (data transfer), voice over WLAN, and video streaming services. This translated into clients accessing a mobile concierge and having a viable VPN on their mobile phones and tablets.

Deployment at The Sands resulted in additional wireless support to complement the network already in place, and a Wi-Fi network with instant availability and low total access point count.
