HT's Most Popular Hotel Technology Stories in January 2019

With the change in calendar year, we saw interest among our readers in stories that predict what 2019 will have in store for the hospitality industry. Guestroom technology upgrades took a top spot with Upgrade Your Guestroom in 2019 with These 5 Technologies by Jordan Hollander, Co-Founder, Hotel Tech Report and the announcement by Hilton that it was partnering with Netflix to offer guests new in-room streaming options.

Our readers also seemed to be extra interested in artificial intelligence this month. Both Artificial Intelligence in Hospitality: Bots Build Brands by Ashu Bhatia, Executive VP with Avanade and It’s a Brave New World: AI, Hospitality and 2019 by Klaus Kohlmayr, Chief Evangelist, IDeaS were highly read this month. This interest aligns well with data from our 2019 Lodging Technology Study which found that 50% of hotel data leaders are prioritizing augmenting service with artificial intelligence in 2019.

This month's cases studies also hit home with readers who wanted to know what colleagues were doing within the industry to save money (How a Portland-Based Hotel Saved $11k by Replacing Traditional Legacy In-Room Devices) and improve the guest experience (How One Casino Helps Guests Feel They're at the Game; Why One Hotel Lets Guests Test Technology Before They Buy).

Of course, with Marriott's data breach announced at the end of November 2018, many in the hotel industry are wondering how the brand will fare, what will ultimately be the consequences of the breach for the company. It's no surprise then that What can we learn from the Marriott breach? by Arshad Noor, CTO and founder, StrongKey was highly clicked on by our readers
