Hotel Internet Services (HIS), a full-service provider of internet services and solutions for the hospitality industry, has announced its publishing of a comprehensive white paper detailing what today’s guests currently expect from a hotel’s Wi-Fi service. Made available to this year’s HITEC Orlando (June 27-30) attendees at HIS booth #311 in addition to being free to download from the company’s website, HIS with its white paper takes feedback from hundreds of guests and hoteliers to demonstrate what now counts as high-performance Wi-Fi and what hotels need to do to live up to evolving guest expectations.

Entitled “Exceeding Guest Wi-Fi Expectations in the Hospitality Technology Gold Rush,” the latest HIS Wi-Fi white paper follows from a similar survey performed in 2018 to reveal several key findings over how guest online behaviors and standards have progressed. For example, both surveyed guests and hoteliers indicated that at least 100Mbs of connectivity speed is required to deliver a satisfactory online experience. This level of bandwidth is understandably necessary as more guests continue to seek out resource-intensive online activities. In the HIS white paper, more than 65 percent of guest respondents voiced their desire to access streaming subscriptions while another 53 percent indicated that they would seek to download files- both of which can cause substantial headaches for hoteliers if their networks are ill-equipped. Raising the stakes further, more than half of guest respondents said that they would not return to a hotel if Wi-Fi service quality did not meet expectations.

“Our latest survey findings and white paper demonstrate that the presence of a high-performance Wi-Fi network has only become even more critical to running a successful hotel business capable of meeting modern guest expectations,” said Gary Patrick, CEO of Hotel Internet Services. “Today’s hoteliers not only have to contend with guests bringing more devices and performing more rigorous online activities, they also have to consider the implications of how moving towards an interconnected hotel environment can affect their overall network needs. With many hotels adopting IoT-based solutions in order to address guest demands for evermore personalized and faster service, we look forward to providing HITEC attendees and hoteliers around the world with an insightful guide offering valuable direction on how their network strategies need to evolve.”

As guests become increasingly accustomed to the advantages of smart technology, HIS’ white paper further includes details on the IoT platforms and services that are vying for both guest attention and hotel network resources. For example, almost 80 percent of guests seek out the ability to be able to view their bill and check-out without the hassle of visiting the front desk. 65 percent of guests desire room access capabilities that transform personal devices into digital keys. Content casting now serves as the preferred entertainment experience of choice by approximately 50 percent of guests, while a significant number desire more convenient control over in-room amenities such as thermostats or lights.
