Cracker Barrel Upgrades to MICROS Workstation 5
The Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (Cracker Barrel), the chain known for its friendly home-away-from-home old country stores and restaurants, elected to upgrade all of its stores with the MICROS Workstation 5 (WS5). Cracker Barrel's upgrade for its 588 company-owned stores includes 2,700 MICROS WS5's, which will be deployed over the next two and half years.
The MICROS WS5 will provide Cracker Barrel with a cost effective POS touch-screen workstation built on a solid state architecture to minimize repair needs. In addition, the MICROS WS5 uses a Microsoft CE.Net operating system that is much less susceptible to viruses, and the proprietary MICROS Client Application Loader (CAL). The MICROS CAL is client management software which promotes easy loading, upgrading, and remote management of software applications, making deployment and depot service for the MICROS WS5 easy.
"MICROS has been a strong, reliable partner of Cracker Barrel for over a decade," says Tim Mullen, vice president of information technology, Cracker Barrel. "We evaluated other POS product options, and found the MICROS WS5 best fits our requirements for an easy to deploy, easy to maintain, low cost solution. We have been very pleased with the prior five generations of MICROS Workstations that we have utilized and we look forward to this next successful technology deployment."
Workstation features
The all new WS5 features a powerful processor running the latest Microsoft Windows Embedded operating systems and a large, bright 15" touchscreen display. Other characteristics include standard stereo speakers, 1G networking, MICROS CAL, and an advanced operating system recovery utility. The use of flash memory and passive cooling reduces energy consumption and the risk of costly mechanical failures, and improves system reliability and uptime. Improved I/O connectivity, a new, easy to use adjustable stand, and many modular options make the WS5 highly configurable and ready for use in a wide range of applications.
