citizenM Expands Business Model to Subscription-Based Reservations, in Recognition of the Global Shift in Work/Life Culture

9/23/2020

Remote workers and digital nomads can work and have fun in a way that perfectly fits their lifestyle – thanks to two new subscription services by citizenM, the lifestyle hotel company.

Known for its adaptability to the changing demands of global business travelers – and supported by tech that makes life easier – citizenM has been able to respond quickly to the rapid changes caused by the coronavirus pandemic in the hospitality industry. In the summer 2020, citizenM launched the world's first contactless hotel stays across its entire portfolio – where any guest can manage their entire hotel stay (from pre-arrival to check-out) via the free app on their own smart device. Thanks to this, citizenM has continued to see progressively rising guest numbers in most of its hotels.

The current global shift in work culture – from office to home to anywhere – is a trend well covered in the media, but not yet well addressed by the hospitality industry weakened by the pandemic. citizenM has reacted quickly once again by launching two new subscription services for remote workers and digital nomads.

Introducing: corporate subscription by citizenM – a seriously clever sleep-work-meet package for companies with remote workers who travel regularly; distributed teams who need to (or want to) gather consistently; and local individuals who need a better alternative to working from home. Companies will appreciate the generous features and benefits of the corporate subscription.

For just 500 EUR / 550 GBP / 600 USD per month, one employee can work at any citizenM hotel living room anytime they want, sleep for three nights (including a welcome drink and breakfast), use the meeting rooms, add more nights or meeting room hours at 10% discount, and entertain clients at canteenM and cloudM rooftop bars.

The corporate subscription is a single package designed to solve all these typical problems companies no longer want to deal with: paying for expensive coworking memberships or office spaces, wasting time on searching for hotel/meeting room/workspace deals, and no access to professional spaces in big cities for client meetings, workshops or entertaining. This package also completely eliminates unpredictability in pricing and hotel-stay quality.

Buyers have total subscription flexibility – they can purchase one-month-at-a-time as needed for as many remote workers as needed (or for themselves), or get the annual plan with the 12th month free for the frequent travellers.

All 21 citizenM hotels are open to the users of corporate subscription, with seven more hotels due to open in 2021. Current cities: New York, Seattle, London, Paris, Boston, Amsterdam, Rotterdam,Glasgow, Zurich, Geneva, Copenhagen, Washington DC, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei. New cities coming in 2021: Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Chicago.

Corporate subscription by citizenM is now available to purchase via https://www.citizenm.com/corporate-subscription

Introducing: global passport by citizenM – a fixed-rate stay option for digital nomads who want to travel the world without missing a beat at work, with the ultimate flexibility of deciding on a month-by-month basis. Letting go of the expensive big-city apartment and moving in with citizenM is now possible – at a super-low average rate of 50 EUR / USD / GBP per night when purchasing one full month. Digital nomads, freelancers and adventurers will find the price and the 30-day-at-a-time booking far more attractive than signing an expensive long-term lease in a single city.

The global passport is the perfect work/live/travel offer for a flexible lifestyle – for all who want to exchange working from home to working from anywhere, or being based in one city to being based in any city they wish to explore. For digital nomads, there’s no need to worry about lost productivity – all citizenM hotels have superfast free Wi-Fi, designated working areas, and prime city-centre or airport locations with the very best of each city on the doorstep. The subscription model will also appeal to those who need to stay in one city for more than one month, but don’t want to sign an expensive and inflexible lease.

The global passport is a block of 30 consecutive days at citizenM, available to buy on a month-by-month basis at a rate of 50 EUR / USD / GBP per night, plus discounts on food and beverages. The price of a full month (1500 EUR / USD / GBP) is less than a month's rent for a central location in a big city like London, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, etc. There are no black-out dates, and the only requirement is a minimum of 7 nights at any one location (and a maximum of 30 nights at one location).

citizenM’s global passport will be available in a limited quantity of 1,000. Digital nomads who are interested in more information can visit the dedicated global passport page https://www.citizenm.com/global-passport and complete the short inquiry form.

All 21 citizenM locations in 14 cities are included: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Glasgow, Paris, Zurich, Geneva, Copenhagen, New York, Boston, Seattle, Washington DC, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei. New cities coming in 2021: Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Chicago.

“When you can work from home, you can really work from anywhere. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to live your dream by checking off most of your bucket list without taking a sabbatical,” says Lennert de Jong, Chief Commercial Officer for citizenM. “All you need is a suitcase and a laptop, and you can join your Zoom meetings from any of our cities. When we created our corporate subscription for companies, we heard from a lot of people that they’d like something similar for themselves – but with even more freedom to travel the world. We saw that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become the Netflix of the hotel industry and provide unlimited nights at a fixed price.”

Robin Chadha, citizenM’s Chief Marketing Officer says, ‘The work-from-anywhere lifestyle is now more than a trend – it’s a global movement, a shift in the way work is seen and done. Some of the world’s biggest companies are switching to remote working to stay competitive. During the pandemic, they saw enhanced productivity, rising employee satisfaction, major cost savings, and most importantly – better recruitment for skilled positions and diversity. Decentralisation in work and life has been talked about for many years, but the pandemic has given it a big push towards reality. citizenM is in a great position to respond to that new reality by creating this exciting new subscription-based business model in the hotel industry.’

The corporate subscription and global passport are just the newest additions in citizenM’s latest innovation streak. 2020 has been a year of great accomplishment so far, with three new hotel openings (Seattle, Geneva and Washington DC), the launch of a new website and a new app, introduction of contactless stays (check-in, payments, door opening, room controls and more, all via the guest’s own smart device).

citizenM is not a traditional hotel company – nor is it narrowly defined by the usual hotel standards. citizenM is a lifestyle brand and a hybrid hotel chain founded on a groundbreaking philosophy of ‘affordable luxury for the people’. The ‘people’ are today’s frequent travellers – the professionals, shoppers, explorers and pleasure seekers – who cross continents the way others cross streets. To them, superfast free Wi-Fi matters more than a chocolate on the pillow. They want to get the most out of every city, even if their visit lasts only a few hours. And after an intense day or an exciting night, they don’t want to travel to the suburbs to sleep in a boring beige bedroom.

Both corporate subscription and global passport are now available to purchase at citizenM.
