Hyatt Regency Hotel Security Incident Under Investigation

Police are investigating a Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Minneapolis after recording devices were found in some of its guest rooms. Police spokesman John Elder told the Star Tribune that it was not immediately known if the devices recorded any guests as they, “have not mined any data from those as of yet,” he said. “We are working to ascertain what it is that we have.”

The Hyatt Hotel released a statement to WCCO-TV saying:

“The safety and security of guests and colleagues is a top priority at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. As soon as we learned about this situation, we contacted local authorities immediately and conducted a thorough property-wide search for unauthorized recording devices; no additional devices have been found. Per local authorities, it does not appear that anyone associated with the hotel was involved in the situation. The hotel continues to fully cooperate with Minneapolis Police Department on their investigation, and further questions may be directed to MPD.”

As of now, it us also unknown how many rooms were involved by Elder notes that it’s “not many.” He also said in conjunction with the statement that it doesn’t appear that anyone associated with the hotel was involved.
